7 dollars
i had my $7 worth of live soccer experience today at the kallang stadium. singapore vs thailand. it wasnt that bad after all.
here's how my $7 was spent:
$1.50 went to standing and sitting
$2 went to clapping
$0.50 went to cheering
$3.00 went to laughing at a stadium full of spectators hurling vulgarities at the thais or referee, and not forgetting the periodic throwing of (un)shredded newspapers.
i reached the kallang stadium in a taxi with sam. the driver didnt even know how the stadium looked like and thought it was already torn down to be rebuilt. how toot is that? when we were between the indoor stadium and kallang stadium, i said in chinese "the stadium is on the right". who will or can miss the stadium. it isnt exactly very small.
after getting our tickets and waiting around of friends, we went into the stadium to find seats. good thing we got superb seats, facing almost the middle of the field.
the spectators were an enthusiastic bunch. they were so enthu about doing the kallang wave, enthu about hurling vulgarities in malay, which later got translated into hokkien and enthu about throwing newspapers to express their joy or whatever. above all these, there was a sense of unity that i wld never feel while watching the match on tv.
and yes! it was definitely damn fun. sam, u must take me to another big soccer match! the next world cup maybe :)
